DEAR FRIEND:
YOUR RECENT LETTER WAS MUCH APPRECIATED. IT IS NICE TO KNOW THAT WE HERE IN SPEED ARE REMEMBERED BY SOME OF THE KNOW THAT WE HERE IN SPEED ARE REMEMBERED BY SOME OF THE FELLOWS WHO HAVE VISITED US DURING THE PAST TWO AND A HALF YEARS, ESPECIALLY IF WE ARE REMEMBERED KINDLY.
YOU DID NOT NEED TO REMIND ME OF WHO YOUR ARE, FOR I REMEMBER YOU QUITE WELL. I MET YOU ABOUT A YEAR AGO IN TEH BUS DEPOT IN LOUISVILLE, REMEMBER.
YOU MAY BE INTERESTED IN THE FACT THAT WE ARE STILL HAVING OUR WEEKEND PARTIES. STARTING IN JULY, 1942, WE HAVE HAD FIFTY PARTIES WITH EXACTLY 550 MEN AS OUR GUESTS. IN ADDITION TO YOUR LETTER, I HEARD FROM FOUR OTHER FELLOWS THIS CHRISTMAS WHO HAD VISITED HERE FOR A WEEKEND.
YOU MENTIONED MY STAMP COLLECTION. WELL, I STILL HAVE IT BUT THAT IS JUST ABOUT ALL I CAN SAY, FOR I HAVE ADDED VERY LITTLE TO IT SINCE THE WAR BEGAN.
AT PRESENT HERE AT THE COMMUNITY HOUSE I AM MAKING A COLLECTION OF SHOULDER PATCHES OF VARIOUS ARMY OUTFITS, AND IT CROWS IN INTEREST DAILY AS NEW PATCHES ARE SENT IN FROM PRACTICALLY ALL OVER THE WORLD. MOUNTED ON CARDS IN DISPLAY CASES, THEY MAKE QUITE AN ATTRACTIVE COLLECTION. I HAVE A SECOND ARMY PATCH, BUT THERE ARE MANY OTHERS I DO NOT HAVE.
IF YOU EVER HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY, I HOPE YOU WILL VISIT US AGAIN. WE WILL BE VERY GLAD TO SEE YOU.
