HELLO, RAYMOND:
IT HAS SEEN SOME TIME SINCE I HAVE WRITTEN YOU ANY NEWS FROM THE HOME TOWN. TODAY IS THE LONGEST DAY OF THE YEAR AND THE OFFICIAL BEGINNING OF SUMMER BUT, BELIEVE ME, WE HAVE HAD SUMMER IN FULL FORCE! LAST SATURDAY AND SUNDAY WERE THE HOTTEST DAYS WE HAVE HAD HERE IN A LONG TIME. It WAS SO HOT THAT THE CONCRETE HIGHWAY EXPLODED, AND IN JEFFERSONVILLE ONE OF THE STREETS DID THE SAME THING. THE LAST TWO DAYS HAVE BEEN MUCH COOLER.
LAST MONDAY THERE WAS A FIRE SCARE IN SELLERSBURG. A SHED IN THE REAR OF LOWELL SMITH�S STORE CAUGHT ON FIRE AND THE TOWNSPEOPLE BECAME FRANTIC. THEY CALLED THE JEFF FIRE DEPARTMENT BUT BEFORE THE TRUCKS ARRIVED THE FIRE WAS OUT, WITH VERY LITTLE DAMAGE DONE.
CHARLIE HENDRICKS SOLD HIM HOME IN SELLERSBURG TO JOHN STAUTH OF CORYDON. HE AND HIS FAMILY ARE LIVING WITH DUTCH COWLING UNTIL MR. AND MRS. ROBERT RIGGLE VACATE THEIR HOME WHICH HAS BEEN PURCHASED BY OTT WEBER AND IS TO BE RENTED TO CHARLIE. THE RIGGLES HAVE BOUGHT THE COWLINGS HOUSE AND WILL MOVE THERE AS SOON AS COWLINGS MOVE INTO
THE NEW COMPANY-OWNED HOUSE ON THE STREET BACK OF THE COMMUNITY HOUSE PARK NEXT TO ESWINES� HOUSE.
YOUR DAD WAS IN LAST NIGHT AND BROUGHT ME A COPY OF A CITATION THAT PETE HAD SENT HOME, IN WHICH HIS OUTFIT WAS HIGHLY COMMENDED FOR THEIR WORK DURING THE LAST TWO YEARS.
YOUR FOLKS WERE GLAD TO GET TWO LETTERS FROM YOU LAST WEEK.
WE HOPE IT WON�T BE TOO LONG UNTIL WE WILL BE SEEING YOU AT HOME AGAIN.
