DEAR JOE:
YOUR LETTER WRITTEN FEB. 27 WAS RECEIVED AND, AS ALWAYS, I WAS GLAD TO HEAR FROM YOU AND TO KNOW THAT YOU HAVE ENJOYED SEEING SOME OF THE ENGLISH COUNTRYSIDE WHILE ON FURLOUGH. I SHOULD THINK CARDIFF WOULD BE QUITE INTERESTING AND WALES ALSO, WITH ITS MANY QUAINT CUSTOMS AND ANCIENT VILLAGES. BRISTOL, I PRESUME, IS A BUSY MANUFACTURING CITY SO PROBABLY IS NOT AS INTERESTING AS SOME OF THE OTHERS. WHEN YOU WERE IN BRISTOL YOU WERE NOT SO FAR FROM WINCHESTER WHERE I SPENT MOST OF MY TIME WHILE IN ENGLAND.
MEETING HUBERT COUCH MUST HAVE ADDED MUCH TO THE PLEASURE OF YOUR VACATION AND I AM GLAD YOU COULD SEE EACH OTHER.
I AM GLAD YOU ARE FINDING THE RED CROSS OF SO MUCH HELP TO ALL YOU FELLOWS OVER THERE. WE ARE NOW TRYING TO RAISE $1,800 HERE IN SILVER CREEK TOWNSHIP FOR THIS ORGANIZATION AND I BELIEVE WE WILL DO IT. TOO, I'M GLAD YOU RECEIVED THE CHRISTMAS BOOK AND ENJOYED IT.
WRITE ME AGAIN WHEN YOU HAVE A CHANCE AND TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE INTERESTING THINGS YOU ARE SEEING AND DOING IN ENGLAND.
