MR. AND MRS. CLAUDE COUCH
CHARLESTOWN, INDIANA
DEAR MR. AND MRS. COUCH:
ENCLOSED YOU WILL FIND SEVERAL COPIES OF THE LAST ISSUE OF THE SPEEDOMETER CONTAINING AN ACRTICLE IN MEMORY OF SGT. CHARLES SNIDER AND YOUR SON, SGT. HOMER COUCH, IN WHICH I ATTEMPTED TO PAY THE TRIBUTE DUE THESE TWO BOYS WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE SERVICE OF THEIR COUNTRY. I AM PROUD TO FEEL THAT THEY WERE BOTH MY FRIENDS.
FOR TWO YEARS NOT I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO KEEP IN TOUCH WITH THE BOYS FROM OUR COMMUNITY WHO ARE IN SERVICE BY MEANS OF A MONTHLY LETTER TO THEM. HOMER WAS QUITE FAITHFUL IN HIS CORRESPONDENCE AND WROTE TO ME QUITE FREQUENTLY; ALL OF THESE LETTERS HAVE BEEN KEPT AND I CHERISH THEIR POSSESSION.
HOMER WAS A GOOD SOLDIER, I KNOW, AND DESPITE YOUR GREAT SORROW YOU MUST BE PROUD TO HAVE A SON WHO WAS SO WILLING TO GIVE HIS BEST TO HIS COUNTRY.
AS I DO NOT KNOW THE ADDRESS OF HOMER'S WIFE, I HOPE YOU WILL SEE THAT SHE RECEIVES A COPY OF THIS LITTLE PAPER AND THAT SHE BE TOLD OF MY SINCERE SYMPATHY WHICH IS EXTENDED TO HER AS WELL AS TO BOTH OF YOU AND ALL THE OTHER MEMBERS OF YOUR FAMILY.
YOURS VERY TRULY,
JESSE G. DORSEY
JGD:LD
ENCL.
