HELLO, FERN;
HOW DO YOU LIKE NEW YORK--OR HAVE YOU HAD A CHANCE TO SEE THE BIG CITY YET? IF YOU HAVE NOT, I AM SURE YOU WILL ENJOY YOUR FIRST TRIP ON WHAT USED TO BE THE "GREAT WHITE WAY." WHEN YOU HAVE A CHANCE, BE SURE TO SEE THE BRONX ZOO--IT IS NOT FAR FROM YOU, AND IS ONE OF THE BEST IN THE WORLD. I KNOW, TOO, YOU WILL ENJOY RADIO CITY WITH ALL ITS WONDERS, AND ALL THE SIGHTS OF LOWER MANHATTEN.
FROM THE WAY I AM WRITING ANY ONE WOULD THINK THAT I DID NOT KNOW YOU ARE IN THE NAVY AND THAT YOUR TIME IS TAKEN UP WITH YOUR BASIC TRAINING! I AM WONDERING JUST WHAT SORT OF LIFE YOU LIVE THERE IN COLLEGE GETTING THIS TRAINING. WHEN YOU HAVE TIME I HOPE YOU WILL WRITE ME AND TELL ME ABOUT IT.
TOO, I HOPE YOU WILL BE SURE TO SEND ME YOUR PICTURE TAKEN IN YOUR UNIFORM. IN MY COLLECTION OF PICTURES, WHICH NUMBERS ABOUT 125, I HAVE ONE WAC BUT NOT A WAVE, SO I AM ANXIOUS TO GET YOUR PICTURE.
THE LAST ISSUE OF THE SPEEDOMETER IS ENCLOSED--YOU MIGHT FIND SOMETHING INTERESTING IN IT.
LATER THIS MONTH I WILL GET OUT MY REGULAR LETTER TO ALL THE PEOPLE FROM HERE IN THE SERVICE, AND I WILL BE SURE YOU GET ONE, ALONG WITH THE OTHER ISSUES OF THE SPEEDOMETER, BUT BE SURE TO KEEP ME INFORMED OF YOUR ADDRESS SHOULD IT CHANGE.
SINCERELY,
JESSE G. DORSEY
