FORT KNOX, KENTUCKY
FOR NEARLY A YEAR WE HAVE BEEN ENTERTAINING GROUPS OF SOLDIERS FROM FORT KNOX HERE IN OUR COMMUNITY. THEY COME ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND ARE ENTERTAINED SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY MORNING IN OUR COMMUNITY HOUSE, THEN ATTEND THE MORNING WORSHIP SERVICE IN OUR COMMUNITY CHURCH AND FROM THERE THEY GO INTO HOMES IN THE COMMUNITY FOR SUNDAY DINNER AND FOR THE AFTERNOON.
THE WEEKEND OF MAY 15-16, TWO OF YOUR MEN CAME WITH THE PARTY--PFC. HOMER J. THACKER AND T/5 KEITH W. HAMMOND. THEY WERE QUITE PROUD OF THEIR OUTFIT AND QUITE COMPLIMENTARY OF YOU AND OF THE OTHER OFFICERS OF THEIR COMPANY.
SINCE THE THING WE ARE DOING HERE IS ENTIRELY APART FROM ANY ORGANIZED PROGRAM SUCH AS THE USO, WE HAVE NO WAY OF EVALUATING OUR PROGRAM AS A MORALE BUILDER FOR OUR SERVICE MEN. TOO, IT DOES TAKE CONSIDERABL.E EFFORT AND TIME ON THE PART OF A NUMBER OF OUR PEOPLE AND AN EXPENDITURE OF ABOUT $20.00 EVERY TWO WEEKS- -THIS IS CONTRIBUTED BY OUR LOCAL PEOPLE- -SO WE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW JUST WHAT SOME OF THE ARMY AUTHORITIES THINK OF WHAT WE ARE DOING.
SEVERAL WEEKS AGO I WROTE A RATHER COMPLETE REPORT OF OUR PROGRAM HERE AND MAILED IT, WITH THE NAMES OF SOME OF THE MEN WHO HAD BEEN HERE, TO THE PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICE AT FORT KNOX IN HOPES THAT THEY WOULD INTERVIEW SOME OF THE BOYS AND LET US KNOW THEIR REACTIONS, BUT WE DID NOT HEAR FROM THIS OFFICE.
SINCE YOUR MEN HOLD YOU IN SUCH HIGH RESPECT, I WONDER IF YOU WOULD TALK TO THESE TWO WHO VISITED US AND FIND OUT THEIR REACTION TO OUR PROGRAM FOR THEIR ENTERTAINMENT. IF THAT BE FAVORABLE, I AM SURE A LETTER FROM YOU WOULD ENCOURAGE OUR PEOPLE TO CONTINUE THESE WEEKEND PARTIES.
