I WAS GLAD TO HEAR YOU HAVE ARRIVED SAFELY IN ALASKA AND I HOPE YOU ARE ENJOYING YOUR NEW ARMY EXPERIENCES AS MUCH AS YOU WERE THOSE YOU HAD HAD UP TO THE TIME OF YOUR FURLOUGH. UNDER SEPERATE COVER I AM SENDING YOU COPIES OF THE SPEEDOMETER. WE REVIVED THE PAPER SEVERAL MONTHS AGO AND PUBLISH IT EVERY TWO WEEKS. YOU MAY FIND SOME NEWS OF INTEREST IN THEM
AS YOU CAN SEE, EACH ISSUE I WRITE UP ONE OF OUR BOYS IN THE SERVICE. I WISH YOU WOULD SEND ME SOME INFORMATION ABOUT YOURSELF SO THAT I MIGHT WRITE YOU UP IN AN EARLY ISSUE. SEND ME THE DATE OF YOUR ENLISTMENT, WHERE YOU HAVE SERVED, AND THE DATES; SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR TRAINING UP TO THE TIME YOU LEFT THE U. S.; SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR TRIP TO ALASKA- -HOW YOU WENT AND THE TIME REQUIRED FOR THE TRIP; THEN SOMETHING ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE DOING NOW. TOO, I WOULD BE GLAD TO HAVE YOU TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT ALASKA- -HOW YOU LIKE IT, WHAT YOU DO FOR RECREATION, ETC.
A LOT OF THE BOYS FROM SPEED ARE NOW IN THE SERVICE. GLEN JOHNSON, EARL BERRY, EARL MCCUUDY AND EARL CRUM ARE IN THE MARINE CORPS; EUGENE BAGSHAW IN THE NAVY; JAMES SAMPLES, BILLY BRINER, CARL ED RIGGLE, MERRILL WALKER, �EARS� AMOS, BOB BYERS, BOB KRAJNAK AND OTHERS ARE IN THE ARMY. JESS SWARTZ AND �T-BONE� WOODS EXPECT TO GO TO THE ARMY THIS MONTH.
THERE IS NOT MUCH NEWS HERE. PLANS ARE UNDER WAY TO DIG OUT THE ENTIRE BASEMENT UNDER THE CHURCH TO GIVE US MORE ROOMS FOR SUNDAY SCHOOL. THE COMPANY IS BUILDING TWO NEW BRICK HOMES IN SPEED NEXT TO ESWINE�S PROPERTY. THE HOUSE IN WHICH YOUR GRANDMOTHER LIVES HAS BEEN MOVED OUT OF THE PARK AND SET UP NEXT TO JESS ADAMS� PLACE. THE BIG POWDER PLANT AT CHARLESTON IS NOW RUNNING ABOUT FULL CAPACITY, AND THE BAG PLANT, WHERE THE SILK BAGS ARE MADE AND FILLED WITH POWDER, IS NOW BEGINNING TO OPERATE. A
