Sesquicentennial Committee is
happy to present the official
logo for the celebration of the
1 5 0 t h a n n i v e r s a r y of
Greentown's founding. The
event will be June 11- 14.1998.
The logo is the result of
melding the submissions of two
Greentown graduates, Jan Zirkle
and Bob McCann, both of whom
now live away from Greentown
century typeface ( ca. 1880)
which would have been in use
during the glass factory period.
The logo is the property of
Greentown Sesquicentennial,
Inc. Steps are being taken to
register it as a trademark. The
usual courtesies should be
observed as to trademarks -
permission should be sought
before using it in any way, in
whole or in part.
but who cared enough about
their hometown to enter the logo
contest. Zirkle lives in Saudia
Arabia and McCann in McLean,
Virginia.
The " G" which begins the
name, Greentown, Ind., is the
" G" used in the Glass Festival
logo. This was selected because
the Sesquicentennial celebra-tion
will be concurrent with the
1998 Glass Festival. The Indian
represents the Miami people who
inhabited this land before the
white settlers came, who were
neighbors for a time, and upon
whose land Greentown was
founded.
The logo will appear on
various items which the
Sesquicentennial Revenue
Committee is planning to have
available for purchase to help
fund- the 150th birthday
observance. From a booth in
the " Big Top" at the Howard
County Fair, some items will be
ready for immediate purchase,
including a 1998 calendar,
Orders will taken for the
history book being authored by
Bonnie Bonebrake ( and others)
and for a woven afghan
depicting various Greentown
scenes.
Highway Work
to % gin
The Town of Greentown has
been informed that the Indiana
Department of Transportation
will begin a reconstruction of
U. S. 35 from Darrough Chapel to
SR 13. The project will include
right t u r n lanes where
applicable. Work is to begin at
the Kokomo end on June 9.
Greentown residents are
assured that the Greentown
area will not be affected until
after the Glass Festival.
Brunk Ditch to
be Cleaned
Brunk Ditch, which runs
through the south side of
Greentown, will be cleaned from
Meridian Street to the Wildcat
Creek starting May 27. Town
Council President Robert
Armstrong states that the
debris will be burned on site
rather than hauling away. This
will result in a substantial
savings in cost of the project.

Committee will have an entry in
the Glass Festival parade June
14 this year. Anyone who wants
to dress in old fashioned clothes
is welcome to join in the fun.
There will be opportunity to
ride or walk. Children are
needed to walk and pass out
flyers about next year's event.
Women and girls might wear
anything that looks " Old
fashioned". Men and boys
might wear jeans or dark pants,
shirt, suspenders and/ or vests,
and straw hats. Those wanting
to be in the parade should meet
at the north end of the livestock
barn at the fairgrounds between
12: 30 and 1: 00 p. m. on June 14.

Town Council
Greentown Town Council
President, Robert Armstrong,
informed the Council at a May 6
meeting of progress toward
solving problems relative to
sewage processing. A letter
from the Indiana Department of
Environmental Management
found Greentown in Non-
Compliance with " Ammonia-
Nitrogen Violations" and " Lack
of sludge storage" and " High
Flows causing solid carry-over".
A letter of resDonse with
Members of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the
Children of the American Revolution participated in Memorial Day
Services at Crown Point Cemetery in Kokomo on May 26.
