This combination of men, women and children, representing American history from Native American to early
agriculture, participated in the Haynes/ Apperson parade on July 6. The purpose was to promote the
Greentown Sesquicentennial, which will be observed in June 1998. There also have been entries in the
Greentown Glass Festival and Peru Circus City parades. Plans are underway to participate in the Elwood
Glass Festival, Tipton Pork Festival and Fairmount James Dean parades. lo learn more about joining in the

intends to apply to the Indiana
Department of Commerce for a
grant from the Community Focus
Fund of the Department's Small
Cities Community Development
Block Grant program. These
funds are to be used for
community development

granted the requests of two
residents to operate businesses
from their homes.

Brad Stanley, 415 S. Meridian
Street, was granted his petition
to operate a heating and air
conditioning business from his
home. Mr. Stanley stated that
no deliveries would be made to
that address, neither would any
scrap be stored on the
property.
Gardm Walk -
July 1998
Thought is being given to
having a Garden Walk next July
in conjunction with Greentown's
Sesquicentennial. If you have a
rower garden of either annuals
or perennials, a shade garden, a
unique water feature, special
landscaping or an herb garden,
please register your interest by
the end of this month. The
number of gardens on the tour
will be limited.
On the day of the Walk, your
yard will be visited by ticket
holders to either get ideas for
their yards or just enjoy the
beauty of yours. What a
wonderful way to show off your
horticultural efforts?! Gardens
will be chosen this fall so the
gardener will have plenty of
time to prepare their yard.

Jitters to be

The popular program, " Jr.
High Jitters", will be conducted
August 14 from 1: 00 to 3: 30 p. m.
in the Eastern High School
Cafeteria. Invited are all
incoming seventh graders and
those entering the eighth grade
who are new to Eastern.
Discussed will be practical
questions such as, " How do I
open my locker?" to personal
concerns about " fitting in".
The Marshal
Says ..... Greentown Town Marshal
Merrill Shrock wishes to remind
all citizens that, " If you put up
a sign ( garage sale or other),
you are responsiblefor taking it
down."
Shrock also reports that
several bicycles have been
turned in to the Greentown
Police. Anyone missing a bicycle
is encouraged to call the
Greentown Police at 628- 3434 or
visit the station in the City
Building, giving a description of
the lost item.
