Road Widening
Project Planned
The Indiana Department of
Transportation has proposed a plan ta
widen US 35/ 22 to four lanes between
Goyer Road to the bridge over the
Wildcat at Greentown. , The project will
provide two lanes in each direction and
a twin left turn lane in urbadsuburban
areas. It calls for a flushkormgated
median through rural areas.
The need for the project is stated as
being a result of rapid development in
the eastern part of Kokomo and the
town of Greentown. The 1998 traffic
xolumes ranged from 13,000 vehicles
per day ( vpd) at Goyer Road to about
9,000 vpd at Greentown. Projected
figures'for the year 2024 are 26,000 at
Goyer Road to 19,000 at Greentown.
According to INDOT, " The proposed
widenirig will accommodate the
increasing traffic, and avoid expected
congestion and delays, and will improve
safety. ' I
