Howard Community Hospital Plans
Greentown Medical Center
By this time next year Greentown
will probably have a new medical
facility. The plan was unveiled by
Howard Community Hospital President
and CEO, Jim Alender, at a meeting of
the Greentown Lions Club Monday,
October 22.
Since 1999 the hospital's strategic
plan has called for expansion of
primary care facilities into rural areas.

the Greentown area's population there
is a shortage of 3.5 physicians in this
area. The study also revealed that
when Greentown residents need
inpatient care 40% use Howard
Community, 38% use St. Joseph
Hospital, and 21% use other ( usually
Indianapolis) hospitals. By having a
primary care facility in Greentown,
Howard Community Hospital hopes to
fulfill some of the inpatient needs now
being served by the out- of- county
In September of 2001 the Howard
Community Hospital Board approved
the purchase of the former Brad Howell
Ford property at the northeast corner of
Meridian and Walnut Streets in
Greentown. The old Ford building will
be demolished in order for the new
facility to be built. The proposed plan
includes landscaping and twenty- two
parking spaces. M. Alender stated that
at the beginning there would probably
be one physician and about five support
site.
Ted Brown, HCH Chief Operating
Officer, stated, " Howard Community
Hospital is excited about the positive
feedback the Greentown community
has given us with respect to expanding
our network to Greentown. We look
forward to bringing exceptional quality
care with compassion and respect for
those we serve in Greentown and its
surrounding communities."

Orchestra to P
The Combined String Orchestra from
Eastern Elementary, Junior, and Senior
High Schools will be presenting a Fall
Concert on November 7 at 7: OO p. m. in
the Eastern Howard Performing Arts
Center.
The concert will feature a broad
range of music that varies from
classical, to patriotic, to different ethnic
cultures, and even includes some show
tunes.
The String Orchestra program has
been in existence since 1998 and has
grown to involve 85 students from 5th
through 10th grades.

right, are shown modeling their new
concert performance attire. Members
are: Alex Beane, Peter Kim, Jason
Aprill, Stephen Voorhis, Zach Warren,
Kevin Thornbloom, Mike Foland, Troy
Eutsler, Abby Walker, Sandi Edwards,
Ann Bedwell, Megan Moss, Barkley
Dever, Vickie Sarjeant, Kelly Trott,
Michelle Lavengood, Melissa Good,
Rebecca Willis, Laura Durr, Annie
Downey, Deborah Kady, Allison
Howell, and Jessica Andrews.
The concert is free to the public,
however, a donation box will be
available in the lobby for gifts which
will be applied to the maintenance of
instruments for the string program.
