Volume 10, Issue 6 paper for the people” June 2003 Work Begins on Toll Road Park Sixteen people pitched in on Saturday, May 31 to begin beautification of the triangle of land, dubbed “ Toll Road Park.” The town-owned property is at the junction of Grant, Hammer, and Carter Streets. Two flower beds were installed. I n addition to shrubs and flower‘ s, a tree was planted in one bed and a half barrel and pump in the other. . John Russell of Russell Landscaping donated the plants and mulch. The G re en t o w n A re a Re s i de 11 t i a 1,. Association ( publishers of the Greentown Ghpevine) donated the barrel and pump. Maintenance will be provided by volunteers. Subway provided sandwiches for the volunteers. Ladd - Dental offered their parking lot for the volunteers. Those who helped were Abby Altman, Eric Altman, Nicale Downing Marge Freeman, Jim Miller, Mary Miller, Jolene Rule, Steve Rule John Russell, Brenda Sandlfn, E. J. Sandlin, Craig Trott, Sarah Walker, Sue Walker, Karen Wolfe, and Zoe Wolfe. To volunteer to help dith maintenance of this spot or to be iiivolved in further plans for it, call Nicole Downing, 628- 03 16. Nicole Downing, Project leader of Toll Road Park, does the honors of installing - a decorative pump at the newly beautified triangle in Greentown. John Russell and Steve Rule also enjoy the moment. It will be “ a year’s “ Great Race”, a two week rally 4,000 mile odyssey featuring the most race of pre- I959 vehicles. Visitors will see an original Driver Education sign which was used when the driver education cars were provided to Eastern School by Greentown Auto. They will also see advertising giveaway items from Don Maple Chevrolet and Greentown Auto. 4 video of Chevrolet advertising movies which were shown at Maple Chevrolet can be seen. Visitors can leave a ndte about “ Who taught you to hive? When? Do you remember the model? They can also test their-knowledge of some old cars, hood ornaments and grills. Also in this exhibit are some Ford tools used at Greentown Auto. Research has been done on the many automobile dealers in Greentown and the makes sold. In addition to locally owned dealerships there were branches of Kokomo businesses. The Greentown Historical Society, at 103 E. Main Street, is open Saturdays and Sundays from 1- 4 p. m. Extended hours are planned for June 14 from 9: OO a. m. to 4: OO p. m. Special arrangements can be made for visiting by calling 765- 628- 38GO aii’d leaving a message.
