Two new 600 gallon- per- minute high-service pumps will replace two smaller ones. Laying of new water mains is about 75% complete. Most of the remaining mains to be done are north of the railroad tracks. Grading and seeding of lawn areas, and application of base asphalt are being done in places. Hook- ups from the new mains to existing sgrvice lines are also partially done. Water superintendent, Kevin Moss, states that sidewalks cannot be replaced until hook- ups are done. The complete project, costing approximately $ 2 million, will increase the amount of water available to Greentown, improve water pressure in some areas, and relieve the ongoing problem of broken water mains.
