Students of Eastern 8” grade took a field trip to Native Americans, and tradesmen of the era. In

Council Hears Amendments to Zoning Ordinance
The Greentown Town Council
received recommendations from
the Plan Commission
concerning amendments to the
zoning ordinance at their
meeting October 4.
Definition of a swimming
&: A swimming pool is an
above or in- ground pool which
is not dismantled seasonally
( less than six months), is at
least 18 inches deep and is
used f o r recreational
purposes.
Definition of streets ( These
additions were made to
coincide with the state’s
definitions of types of streets.
The definitions are needed
when communicating with the
state about projects.)
Arterial Street: Shall mean a
street that provide thru traflc
at higher speeds and service
than a Local Street or
Collector Street. Arterial
Streets are not designed to
“ calm” traflc. Purpose is to
move traffic through.
( Examples are Main,
Meridian, Maple)
Collector Street: Shall mean a
street that collects local streets
to higher classlfication roads.
( Examples are Grant, Walnut)
Local Street: Shall mean a
street that provides access to
houses.
Other requirements of
swimming pools: In the case
of any permanent swimming
pool, the inside edge shall be
no closer than four ( 4) feet to
any lot line. A fence or wall
with minimum four ( 4) foot
height shall be constructed
around any pool. All gates
and doors on pool enclosures
shall contain self- latching
devices.
Ouestions of propertv lines:
All property needing a permit
where there may be a question
on the property line must have
a CertiJied Stake Survey or an
agreement between all
adjoining property owners
which must be recorded with
the Howard County Recorder
before the permit will be
issued. If disputes occur
between properly owners they
will be handled by legal
arbitration and not the
Greentown Town Council.
The recommendation was
tabled in order for the council
to review it.
Residents Petition
for Street Light
Four residents from Elliott
Court presented a petition to
the Greentown Town Council
requesting a street light on the
cul- de- sac. They have been
concerned about vandalism,
thefts, and window peepers.
