Community Fest to be Sept. 23
The Greentown Community Fest will be Saturday, Sept.
23 downtown Greentown. Hours are 9 a. m. - 4 p. m. Among
the features and events are the following:
* Booths by local non- profit organizations
Greentown Historical Society - used book sale
Greentown Lions Club
First Baptist Church of Greentown - cotton candy
Meridian Street Christian Church - food
Cub Scout Pack 3520 .

* Community Fest Art Show
In the Meridian Street C’hristian Church basement 9 a. m. to
4 p. m. This art show is designed to give local artists the
opportunity to show off their talent. Cash awards will be
given to the Best in Show and first place winners in each
category and division. Categories are Fine Arts, Photography
and 3- D art. Divisions are Professional, Amateur and
Juniors. Something new this year is the People’s Choice
Award. Everyone attending the show will be given the
opportunity to vote for their favorite entry. Entry deadline is
Sept 15. For rules and entry form or for more information

* Car Show - Classics & Antiques

Committee Forming.
The Greentown Plan
Commission held its third
meeting on the subject of the
Greentown sign ordinance.
About 9 business owners
attended to hear the discussion
and taoffer suggestions. It was
decided to appoint a committee
of citizens to wrestle with the
issues and report to the Plan
Commission. Four business
people present volunteered’for
. the committee. The Com-mission
wishes to include some
residents who are not business
owners on the committee as
well. Anyone interested may
call Gary Lacy, chairman of the
Plan Commission at 628- 2394.

$ 1.00 or six ducks for $ 5.00.
Each duck you purchase gives
you a chance to win some great
prizes. The grand prize
package is worth $ 100.00,
second package is worth
$ 50.00, and the third package is
worth $ 25.00! In addition to
these wonderful packhges, there
will be several other great
zrizes to win. You need not be

“ Duck for a Buck” is a
fundraiser for the Parks and
Trails co’mmittee of Greentown
Main Street Association. The
committee is raising funds for
an 80/ 20% grant received from
the Department of Natural
Resources for a walking trail.

Annual Patriot
Day Planned
for Sept. I O
The Greentown American
Legion Post 317 will sponsor
the “ Patriot Day - We Will
Remember” program on
Sunday, September 10, 6: 30
p. m. at the Eastern High School
Performing Arts Center. Pre-program
music will begin at
6: OO.
There will be special
recognition for military, police,
firefighters, and EMT’s. There
will be a Laying ofthe Wreaths
by several organizations.
Readings will be done by Allan
James, Peter Heck, Tony
Kinney, and others. There will
be color guards and a rifle
squad salute.
Music will be by Eastern
Chamber Ensemble, Amanda
Dean, First Nazarene Men’s
Quartet, Ryan Greggory
Hensler, Eastern High School
Encore Singers, First Nazarene
Sanctuary Choir, Joyful Noise,
and Craig Trott. ,
There is no admission charge.
“ Music at the Fountain”
Brian Newlon and Gary Gillund of “ New London Sound”
performed for the “ Music at the Fountain” audience August 3 1.
Because of rain, the performance was moved to Meridian Street
Christian Church. Remainingon the schedule are Sept. 7, Howard
County Choraliers & Sound Celebration, and Sept. 14, Eastern
High School Swing Choir & Barbershop Quartet. The event is
held on Meridian Street near the fountain in front of Greentown
City Hall at 7: 30. Lawn chairs are recommended. In case of
inc! ement weather, it will be held at Meridian Street Christian
Church, one block north of the stoplight.
