Volume 14, Issue 3 “ A Paper for the People” March 2007 Salvo’s Opening Soon Serving Italian Cuisine Greentown will soon have a new Italian restaurant, Salvo’s Ristorante Jtaliano. The former Bogie’s Lighthouse on the NW corner of the intersection of Main and Meridian Streets is under new management. Salvo Bruno and his wife, Amanda, are re- opening the restaurant after some redecorating. Amanda is a graduate of Eastern High School, the former Amanda Tracey. Salvo learned to cook in Italy from his grandmothers and worked in family- owned restaurants in that country. He has a passion for cooking and also talks passionately about Greentown. He considers this his hometown now. He and Amanda hope to soon be homeowners in Greentown. The restaurant features homemade pastas including ravioli, lasagna, and gnocchi, as well as home- made desserts. The menu will include dishes from both northern and southern Italy. Amanda’s mother, Carol, is the baker and 1- - soup- maker. Patrons will be treated to fresh bread upon being seated. Salvo graduated from a conservatory of music in Sicily and will occasionally treat patrons to Italian songs accompanied by guitar. The building was the Greentown Post Office in the 1890’ s. It was damaged by fire in 1922 or 1923 and the second story was not rebuilt. It has been a drug store with a cafk in the west section. It has housed restaurants by the names of Malottchi’s, The Glass House, Cup- A- Day, and most recently, Bogie’s Lighthouse. At one time a hand operated public pump, referred to as “ the town pump” was in the street just off the sidewalk at the corner. - It was a popular meeting place. Hours of Salvo’s will be . Monday through Friday, 1 1 to 2 and 5 to 10. Saturday hours are 5 p. m.- 1 1p. m. The restaurant will be closed on Sundays. Catering and banquet services are also available. Salvo and Amanda Bruno NOTICE The Greentown Water Department will be flushing hydrants the first week of April, aeather permitting. Hydrants are flushed to ensure all valves are working properly and to avoid sediment and deposit buildups. There is a possibility that some deposits will backwash into the water system during the flushing period. Customers may want to keep a bottle of water in the refrigerator for drinking and cooking, however the water is safe to drink and use. Also, it would be good to check for d i s c o l o r a t i o n b e f o r e bathing and doing laundry. The tcwn is sorry for any inconvenience to our customers.
