On May 3 we will have the
opportunity to vote for 2 Eastern
School Board seats and to help decide
which aspirants will move on to the
General election in situations where
there are more from one political party
seeking the right to be on the ballot in
November. To be elected this fall are
all township trustees and trustee boards.
The candidates for those positions in
Liberty, Jackson and Union Townships
will be on the primary ballot, but,
barring the unforseen, will all also be
on the ballot in November.

To register to vote: You can register until
April 4 at the Court House. To find out if
you are registered, call Voter Registration
at 456- 22 19.
Seventeen year olds can vote in the
Primary if they will be 18 by Nov. 8. They
cannot, however, vote for school board.
Absentee voting runs Apr 4 - May 2, at
the Court House unless you are confined.
Where to vote: Jackson Twp. - Sycamore
Friends Church, Union Twp. - Center
Grove Baptist Church, Liberty Twp. 1,2,3
& 4 all at Eastern Elementary Gym. If you
don't remember which Liberty precinct you
are in, the nice people at the registration
tables will help you.
How many people usually vote in a
Primary? We go back to 1990 in order to
make the closest comparison to 1994 ( not a
Presidential election year). In Jackson,

840 people voted of 3107 registered, or
27%. Can we do better this year? I'll be
checking the statistics and reporting to you
later. County Clerk, Jem Bourff, made two
statements worth consideration if you are
tempted not to vote, " Every vote does count;
some elections are determined by a very
small margin." " The election costs the
County ( you) the same amount whether no
one turns out or everyone does. "
Recycling Made Easier for
Greentown Area Residents
The Howard County Solid Waste District
has placed new green colored recycling bins
at the west side of Eastern High School for
the public's use. The drop off center
provides for seven categories of
recyclables, newspaper ( tied or sacked),
steel cans, aluminum cans, green glass,
brown glass, clear glass ( remove lids) and
cardboard ( broken down flat).

School boards are chosen by various
methods around the state. At Eastern all
school board seats are elected for a 4
year term on a rotating basis. Regardless
of where you live in the school district
you can vote for one At large candidate
and one Greentown candidate.

Unusual Phenomenon
Were they the work of snowman-builder
Calvin of the comic strips?
Did aliens come down during the night
and form them for our puzzlement? Did
the rabbits and raccoons make them in
preparation for some Wild Winter
Olympics? No, they were formed by
the swirling winds of February 25 in
open relatively bare fields. These
" snowballs" were sometimes round,
sometimes bugle or jellyroll shaped and
had indentations in one or both ends.
Don Kendall, who has lived in
Greentown for years, said he has
never seen anything like this
occurrence.
