Now that cold weather is
setting in, some people may want
to move their exercise efforts

gardening and yard work to
provide their summertime
exercise may likewise welcome a
chance to keep fit without
concern of the weather. Eastern

Monday - Thursday, 6- 9 p. m.
and Saturday 9 a. m. to noon.
There is a $ 25 fee for each four
month t e r m . For more
information, c a l l Randy
Colglazier, Eastern Athletic
Director, at 628- 3333.
Two different aerobics classes
are offered, taught by Cyndy
Kendall. These are held on
Tuesdays and Thursdays,
country & line dance aerobics at
6: 30 p. m. and step dance aero-bics
at 7: 30 p. m. The charge is
$ 28 for 6 weeks, next session to
begin January 3. For more
information, call 395- 7667.

School Construction
All the necessary steps have
been taken in preparation for a
$ 1,404,246.00 building and
renovation project at Eastern
Elementary School. At their
November 1 meeting, the School
Board accepted bids as follows:
Bowman Construction for basic
construction of additions,
G. V. Aikman for Food Service
Equipment ( freezer), Peerless
Plumbing & Heating for
mechanical, plumbing and boiler
replacement, Huston Electric for
new electrical and f o r
retrofitting according to a PSI
arrangement , Dale Winters
Construction for Casework
( cabinets).
The Indiana School Property
Tax Control Board approved the
sale of $ 2.34 million in bonds to
finance the project. Eastern
Superintendent Dr. Lindan Hill
stated that the approval went
smoothly because all the ground
work had been well done. Also
considered were the nearly 400
signatures in support of the
project and none in opposition.
Taxpayers will be happy to
know that no tax increase will
occur because of the project.
Dr. Hill explained that three
current mortgages will be
retired during the life of this
bond issue and the repayment
of the loan will be configured so
as to keep the payments rather
steady .
Ground is expected to be
broken in December, with
construction dependent on the
weather, and substantial
completion by August 1995.
1995 School Property Taxes
to Be Lower
The State Board of Tax
Commissioners, during their fall
tax hearings, approved a 1995
school property tax rate of $ 5.63
per $ 100 of assessed valuation
for residents Eastern School
district. This compares to $ 5.74
for 1994, or a decrease of $. 11.
Supt. Lindan Hill explained that
this is partly from higher
assessed valuation { still the
lowest in the county) and
largely from the state tax
distribution formula which
benefits Eastern's property
owners. This formula was set up
to help level the playing field
by asking wealthier districts to
share with the less wealthy.
