Thursday, April 6, some residents on Greentown's northwest side heard a loud rumble. The cause was the derailment between Harrison and Carter Streets of three cars of Central Railroad Company. The cars, filled with soybeans, toppled onto their sides. They were part of a sixty- five car train. The cargo was enroute from Amboy to Frankfort. Two other cars came off the tracks but did not tip over. As the accident involved cars near the rear of the train, the major part of the train was able to continue on its way, and no streets were blocked for long. The soybeans were loaded onto trucks. About one tenth of a mile of railroad ties had to be replaced. The track was operational about midday Saturday, April 8.
