Toward " Main
Articles of Incorporation
for the " Greentown M a h Street
Association, Inc." were recently
filed ~ tthhe Se cretaryof State
of Indiana. 501( c)( 3) ( nonprofit)
status is being sought as the
first step necessary in order to
apply for a grant to develop a
plan for public improvements to
downtown Greentown. This step
was taken at a meeting
Thursday, December 21, at the
City Building. Those present, at
the invitation of Town Council
President, Bob Armstrong, were:
, Sharon Sheridan, Sally Mower,
Brad Howell, Harold' Middlihn,
Don Flook, Jim Brannon, and
Todd Moser. Sheridan, Mower,
and Middleton signed the
a p p l i c a t i o n p a p e r as
" Incorporators .'*
In time, public improvements
of sidewalks, lighting, and
greenspaces may lead to design
changes and improvements of
privately owned buildings. As
was explained at a meeting held
at the Greentown Library
October 10, the concept may also
include promotions of the
downtown area. Jim Brannon,
President of the Kokomo/ Howard

County Development Corp., said
eventually the program may
include the east and west ends'
of town as well as the center of
town.
The group hopes to meet again
in about 30 days to work on
bylaws of the Association.
The stated purposes for the
Corporation are:
( 1) To encourage the economic
development, redevelopment,
and improvement of the
downtown arek of the Town of
Greentown, Indiana.
( 2) To stimulate the sale of
goods and seWcm in the
downtown area of the town of
Greentown, Indiana,
( 3) to participate in the Indiana
Main Street Program.
( 4) To receive money from any
legal source.
( 5 ) To execute agreements and
cooperate with any State or
federal department or agency,
political subdivision or any
private person or corporation.
( 6) To expend money for any
activity appropriate to the
other purposes enumerated
above.

an honorable mention in the
Indiana Historical Society's
annual photography contest.
The 1995 theme was " Hoosier
H y s t e r ia. " S u b m i t t e d
photographs were to portray
Indiana's fascination with the

sport of basketball.
While c o v e r i n g t h e
Homecoming game February 10,
1995, Rachel noted that Craig's
enthusiastic responses to Comet
plays were a " natural" for
candid photography. She pre-focused
on Trott and waited for
an Eastern player to put the ball
through the basket. Four
pictures were taken, from which
this winning expdsure was
chosen.
The photograph, along with
other winning entries, will be on
display at 315 W. Ohio St.,
Indianapolis, on the first floor
of the Indiana State~ Librarayn d

19, 1996, through March 15.

Beginning
Third Year
This issue of the Greentown
Grapevine is the first in the
third year of publication. More
than two years ago a few people
pondered if it would be possible
to make the expressedwishes of
many become a reality, that of
having a local newspapey again.
It's success is the result of
support by advertisers and the
involvement of many citizens.
The number of people who have
a s s u m e d m o n t h l y
responsibilities has grown, most
recently with the addition of
Sue Walker as writer of herb
articles, Janice Morris as billing
derk and Andy Marsh as
sdvertising contact. Jolene Rule
has changed duties from feature
writer to ad designer.
Of great value is the
involvement of citizens as they
bring news items to our
% ttentionW. e are not clairvoyant
ior can we be everywhere, so
R e g r e a t l y appreciate
montributions of this nature.
Such involvement helps make
. his " a paper for the people".
