Three Vie
for One-
School
Board
Seat
Positions on the Eastern
Howard School Board up for
election on May 7,1996, are from
Jackson Twp., Union Twp., and
Liberty Twp. Dennis Maple is the
lone candidate from Jackson
Twp. and Bryan D. Kirkpatrick
is the only one to file from Union
Twp., so their re- election is
assured.
The Liberty Twp. seat
currently occupied by PhiLip
Wayne Bogue, however, will be
determined by the voters.
Joining Bogue in seeking this
position is Judd A. Mason and
Tamara J. Hahes.
All voters in the Eastern
Howard School district will be
able to vote for one candidate
each from each of the three
townships. Three members of
the five- member board are
elected during the May Primary
of years of Presidential
elections and two members,
Greentown and At- large, during
the even numbered years
between Presidential elections.
School board candidates do not
run by political party.
Greentown
To Be 150
Years Old
The town of Greentown was
first platted in 1848. In
recognition of that event, a
Sesquicentennial celebration
is in the early stages of
planning.
The Greentown. Town
Council has approved the
dates of June 11- 14, 1998 as
the official Sesquicentennial
c e l e b r a t i o n . T h a t will
coincide with the Greentown
Glass Festival of 1998. This
will make an ideal time for
" H o m e c o m i n g s . " The
celebration will include the
three townships of the
Eastern HowarG School
District.
The steering committee,
c o m p r i s e d of B o n n i e
Bonebrake, Darwin Freeman,
Rachel Jenkins, and Craig
Trott, will be announcing
rules for a logo contest in the
March Grapevine Another
task to be accomplished soon
will bi: to identify needed
c o m m i t t e e s a n d s e e k
members. Anyone interested
in volunteering may contact
any of the above named
persons.
" Main Street"
Officers Elected
Don Flook was elected
President of the Greentown Main
Street Association, Inc. at a
meeting of the organizing board
February 22 at the City
Building. Elected Vice President
was Brad Howell; Sally Mower,
S e c r e t a r y ; a n d Sharon
Sheridan, Treasurer.
Flook announced t h a t
incorporation papers have been
received from the State of
Indiana, with February 7, 1996
the effective date.
Jane Howey, a certified grant
administrator, explained what
she might do for the Greentown
Association in lending
experience and expertise to the
project. Flook requested that
she prepare an outline of
functions she might perform
and expected costs.
Nola Albrecht, from Schneider
Engineering Corp., made a
presentation of what that firm
might do in the way of planning
and management of a project. ~
The next meeting of the
Association will be March 28,
630 p. m., at which time bylaws
are expected to be adopted.
Large Steel Beam Installed U
On February 23,1996, employeesof Gaunt and Son, Wabash, lifted
into place a steel " I " beam 30 inches x 12 inches and 24 feet long.
The beam will provide support for the second floor of the American
Legion building. Two existing steel columns were removed from the
entrance in order to allow more aestheticdesign to the front of the
building.
Clyde Ragan of the Legion building committee expressed
gratitude to the Greentown Lions and Greentown Equipment, Inc.
For the loan of fork iifts with which to accomplish the raising of the
beam.
