Work sheds were placed along the tracks to hold equipment and tools. Workers sometimes took shelter in them. Sheds much like these were used to house hand-cars, also.
This picture was taken at Dupont, Indiana. It shows the Graston Lumber Mill just to the side of the railroad tracks. There is a boxcar with two men on top just to the right of the mill. On the far right is a tunnel bridge over the creek.

This is a picture of the old Main Street Bridge on the west side of Madison, Indiana at the lower end of the incline. It seems to be a favorite perch for some of the townsfolk.
