Jasper City Bakery |
Description |
"In 1894, prominent Jasper businessman John Gramelspacher contracted with local brick mason Anthony Hochgesang to construct a two-story brick bakery building on Jackson Street for his daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Heny Montoux. During its earliest years, the bakery was the first business in Jasper to install a telephone and the first to sell Coca-Cola. The baker, Henry Mertens, purchased the business in 1897, sold it back to Montoux in 1899, repurchased it 1903 and sold it again in 1905 to Frank Seibert and his wife. The Seiberts are pictured with Frank Basedow. (Photograph from "Images of America: Jasper and Huntingburg" edited by Ron Flick and Jane Ammeson.)"
