Description
This
is
the
Pennsylvania
Railroad
freight
station
after
the
east
end
of the
building
had been
taken
off
and a
new
frame
structure
had been
constructed
in its
place
. This
took
place
sometime
around
1918
. The
doors
that
you
see
down
the
side
of the
building
each
once
sported
the
name
of
some
inland
town
such
as
Indianapolis
,
Chicago
,
Lafayette
,
etc.
, and
all
freight
destined
for that
point
was
unloaded
at that
door
. On the
opposite
side
similar
doors
and
city
names
designated
freight
that had
arrived
from that
inland
city
. The
old
passenger
depot
which
had been
located
next
to
it
had been
torn
down
about
1915
and a
new
passenger
depot
had been
built
on
First
Street
. This
building
pictured
had also, for a
short
time
, been
used
for
passenger
service
. The
last
of the
building
was
finally
taken
down
in
1938
after
the
flood
of
1937
dealt
it
a
final
death
blow
.
