Description	The "G.W. McBride" was built in 1916 at Elizabeth, Pennsylvania as the "Conqueror". The "Conqueror" was upset in a storm and sank. She was raised, rebuilt, and named the "G.W. McBride" by Captain Birch McBride. She was sold to the Ohio River Company. In May of 1942 she was in Madison for repairs along with the "Crown Hill" under the supervision of Captain Roy McBride. In October the general overhauling of the "McBride" was in its final stages. The yards completed three new rudders and new boilers from Louisville were installed. The boat was given new sides and a new head log and was made four feet wider. Full length timbers (can be seen under caption "Timbers) were used in the construction of the sides of the hull. On November 27th the "McBride" left for Louisville where she passed inspection and was allowed 250 pounds of steam pressure. On February 22, 1942, the "G.W. McBride" struck a pier of the L & N Bridge at Cincinnati and overturned. The accident caused the loss of 16 lives.
