Notes
1 other negative and print available ; Eastman-Kodak Brownie Camera No. 2C model A, with No. 130 film. Additional information: This home was found in city directories as early as the 1870's. Originally built by the prominent Powell Family, it was a lovely home facing Madison's Main Street. The Lewis and Frank Powell families both lived there at one time in the 1800's. In the early 1900's, and for about 15 years thereafter, Oliver Roe lived in the home. In 1937 the Vail Family, who had been in the undertaking business for almost 100 years, at that time, bought the house and converted it into a funeral home. They moved their business from West Street into the old home and have been there since. There was major remodeling in 1977 but the stately old home has retained its elegance.
